The effect of long-term walking exercise on plasma lipids and hormones in obese female collegians
Na Jae-Cheol

Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the effect of long-term treadmill walking exercise on plasma lipids and hormones in the case of obese female collegians. With 14(obese group : 7, control group : 7) female collegians who had turned 18 years old, the 120-minute treadmill walking exercise was administrated for the purposes of gaining some data for lipid parameters an lipolysis hormone-related parameters and of helping obese female students to maintain their physical fitness. It was concluded as following results : During the 2-hour walking on the treadmill, the obese group recorded a mean HR of 145 beats/min and the control group 131 beats/min. VO©ümax/§¸ turned out 34.94 §¢/§¸/min in the former and 44.76§¢/§¸/min in the latter. After the treadmill walking exercise, obese group showed on increase in growth hormone (113%), cortisol(94%), norepinephrine(66%), and FFA(263%). In contrast, control group¡¯s cortisol and FFA increased by 50%, 207%, respectively. After all, the results indicate that obese female students can improve their ability to exercise for a long time in the workout required endurance, by accelerating the lypolysis through the endocrine system and by facilitation energy metabolism through the mobilization and oxidation of FFA as the source of energy.
